Wall-mounted light fixtures add a luxurious touch to home bedrooms. They’re used for many reasons, chiefly aesthetics and space-saving. When placed in a bedroom, they serve as bedside table lamps without taking up half the nightstand. Wall sconces also work well as vanity lights in the bedroom or bathroom.
Most of these lighting fixtures are still connected with standard electrical wiring that you can learn yourself. Here, we’re going to show you how to install a wall sconce step-by-step!
Tools needed for installation:
- Non-contact circuit tester
- New wall sconce light fixture
Step 1: Turn Off the Power
Turn off the circuit breaker and the wall switch before installation. (To avoid damaging your light fixtures, assemble it on a soft, non-abrasive surface, such as carpet or cardboard.)
Step 2: Install the New Mounting Bracket
Attach the new mounting bracket to the junction box with the provided screws. Make sure the bracket is secure and can't move around.
Step 3: Make the Electrical Connections
Connect the copper wire (ground) on the mounting bracket by securing it with the preinstalled green ground screw. Connect the black to live (hot), the white to neutral, and the copper wire (ground) to ground wire with the wire connectors. Position the wires back inside the junction box.
Step 4: Attach the New Light Fixtures
Position the light fixture over the box, and attach it with either mounting screws or acorn nuts.
Step 5: Install the Bulbs, Turn On the Power and Test the Fixture
Install any light bulbs that are required for the fixture. Restore power to the lighting circuit by turning on the circuit breaker, then test your new wall sconce.
If you still have problems during installation, it's better to consult a person with proper electrical knowledge and experience for help, like a qualified electrician.
